Heidelberg Early Summer Procession (Sommertagszug)
March 31, 2019
The annual Heidelberg Early Summer Procession (Sommertagszug) takes place on the fourth Sunday after Mardi Gras.
The procession begins at 3 p.m. in the St. Anna Gasse and then passes through the Old City as far as Marktplatz. The colorful procession is led by Liselotte von der Pfalz. Drummers, musicians and attractively costumed marchers offer plenty of interest for the eyes and ears, while special pretzels are a welcome pick-me-up for younger participants and bystanders. Children march through the Old City sporting special rods that are adorned with a pretzel, an empty eggshell and brightly colored ribbons.
Martin's March (Martinszug)
November 10, 2019
The traditional Heidelberg Martinszug takes place annually on the next Sunday, November 11th. The train starts at 17.00 in the St.-Anna-Gasse and then leads through the main street to the Kornmarkt. There, on a stage, the legend of Martin is presented in a scenic manner. Afterwards, all children can pick up a delicious Martinsmännchen.
