Bertha Benz Memorial Route

Short facts

  • Dossenheim

Over 120 years ago, in August 1888, Bertha Benz brought mobility to the world.

The Bertha Benz Memorial Route as a monument to industrial history is a reminder of the intrepid achievement of Bertha Benz far beyond the borders of North Baden. Bertha Benz's authentic route not only links the original locations of her journey, but also leads through one of the most beautiful holiday regions in the world - with highlights such as the romantic city of Heidelberg, the palace gardens of the asparagus town of Schwetzingen and the world-famous Black Forest! Here is a small excerpt from the list:

  • The square city of Mannheim with its palace (the most Austrian complex in Europe after the Versailles Palace), the water tower and the Luisenpark

  • Schriesheim with a view of the Strahlenburg
  • romantic Heidelberg with its much-celebrated castle and the pulsating old town, where you will find one of the oldest universities in Europe (founded in 1386)
  • Wiesloch with the world's first petrol station and well-known wineries
  • Bruchsal with its baroque castle
  • the fan-shaped city of Karlsruhe, the birthplace of Dr. Carl Benz
