The Kurpfalz (The Electoral Palatinate)

Short facts

  • Plankstadt

Heidelberg used to be the administrative center of the entire Kurpfalz region.

Even today, history and culture connect the "Kurpfälzer" across state borders. Churches and monasteries, castles and palaces: traces of Electoral Palatinate history can be found at every turn in Heidelberg's neighbourhood. It is only a stone's throw to the German Wine Route, to the slopes of the Odenwald on the Bergstrasse, to the legendary Nibelungen and Siegfried Routes, or historic sites on the Castle Road.

Tips for day trips Neckargemünd with the medieval fortress of Dilsberg; the old Roman town of Ladenburg; Schwetzingen, the German Versailles, with its castle park; the cathedral and imperial city of Speyer; Worms with the romantic imperial cathedral are just examples of many destinations worth seeing.
