Bahnstadt

The youngest district in Heidelberg is Bahnstadt.

One of the largest passive house developments in the world is currently being built here. Electricity and heat are supplied entirely from renewable energies. Bahnstadt is also an outstanding science location: the Bahnstadt campus alone covers 22 hectares. With the highest birth rate in Heidelberg, it is evident that Bahnstadt is particularly attractive for families and young people.
In April 2024, the new Heidelberg Congress Center was opened in the Bahnstadt district, providing a new home for conferences and meetings in the science city of Heidelberg.

More than 6,500 people will live there in the future, and another 6,000 will work there - mainly in research and science-based companies. The first residents moved into the new district in June 2012.
