Hotel Gasthaus Backmulde

Description

Living history in the heart of the old town centre of Heidelberg. Already in the 17th century the premises accommodated the so called "Black Ship" – a sailor´s inn. It was destroyed twice: during the French Campaign and then again in a fire in 1689. After that it was rebuilt in its present layout. The "Gasthaus Backmulde" has not always been a hotel: it also housed a brewery, a mechanical factory with workshops, and since 1926 also serves as the guild house of the bakers of Heidelberg.

The location of the listed building is right in the heart of the historical town centre with all its busy shops and attractions, yet quietly situated in a courtyard.
During the modernisation of the building and the refurbishment of the hotel rooms, we carefully tried to preserve its historic charm.

The Hotel Backmulde has 28 individually furbished rooms.

Lean back, enjoy the atmosphere in our historical premises together with our attentive service. The rich breakfast buffet is served every morning from 7 until 11 o'clock.

Relax in the lobby or visit our restaurant that is open from Monday to Saturday, starting from 5.30 pm.

Whenever possible, we use seasonal and locally sourced ingredients for our recipes, for example:
– "Handschuhsheimer Feldsalat" (locally grown lamb´s lettuce from mid October to early April)
– Goose from the poultry farm Ziegler GbR (from early November to mid December)
– Bread rolls and bread from the bakery Cafe Blank (all year around)

Our motto is: "Excellent results are only achieved with passion!"
