Ärzte, Heiler, Hebammen - eine Chronik der Heilkunde in Heidelberg (10230)

Thematic Tours

Description

Leprosy, plague and smallpox are the epidemics that did not spare Heidelberg. When did Heidelberg University acquire a skeleton, when were corpses dissected for the first time? What did a midwife's examination look like? Tooth breakers, pill makers and herbalists with magical healing practices were part of everyday medical life. People were "cupped" and bled. Our route will take you to the sites of everyday medical life of yesteryear: the medieval hospital was located on Kornmarkt, and two hundred years ago there was a "maternity hospital" in today's Marstallhof.
