Information about guided tours in Heidelberg

Public tours

Guided tours may take place in Heidelberg (subject to changes) under the following conditions.

Please note the opening hours of the tourist information:

Tourist information at Neckarmünzplatz:
Monday to Thursday and Saturday 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
Friday 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday/public holidays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tourist information at the Main Station:

Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday/public holidays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

•    Reduced group size: Guided tours with a maximum number of 19 guests per
•    Observance of the minimum distance from person to person: 1.5 m - 2 m.
•    Face masks: FFP2 or medical mask requirement does not apply during an
      outdoor guest tour if the minimum distance can be maintained. In narrow
      passages and wherever the minimum distance can not be maintained, the
      mask must also be worn during the outdoor tour.
•    Please note that in case of booking a city and castle sightseeing tour by bus, a
      mask is also mandatory during the bus tour. It is not possible to attend a bus
      tour without wearing a medical  mask.
•    There is no testing obligation, no vaccination or convalescence certificate for
      outdoor tours (without indoor tours).
•    For the city and castle sightseeing bus tour or tours with indoor visits (castle
      tours, university tours), testing is still mandatory, vaccination or convalescent
      proof prior to the tour even if the incidence is below 35. Only vaccinated,
      recovered or daily negative tested persons are allowed to participate in these
•    Vaccinated persons must present proof of complete vaccination protection
     (vaccination certificate). Full vaccination protection is given with one or two
      vaccinations, depending on the vaccine. At least 14 days must have passed
      since the last required single vaccination.
•    Those who have recovered require proof of a positive PCR test (or other nucleic
      acid detection) dating back at least 28 days and at most six months.
•    Unvaccinated or not recovered persons require a negative Covid test (PCR test,
      POC antigen test, or supervised self-test) less than 24 hours old. Self-tests
      performed without supervision will not be accepted. An overview of testing

•    Visitors are kindly requested to register in advance for the public tours.
•    A booking is only possible if contact details are registered.
•    Cashless payment is possible by paying on site at the tourist information for
      public tours. The tourist information provides a guidance system to show
      visitors the way. Further protective measures such as protective screens or
      floor markings as well as disinfectant dispensers have been implemented.
•    Please avoid shaking hands and greetings with physical contact with the guide
      and observe the current hygiene measures.
•    Detailed briefing by the guides at the beginning of the guided tours.
•    Specific guidance of visitors through the expertise of the tour guides, in order
      to avoid crowds and to comply with the distance regulations.
•    During the tour, no objects can be handed over for illustration.
•    Unfortunately, interior areas cannot currently be visited during the tour. You
      have the possibility to visit them independently after the tour. You will have the
      opportunity to visit them on your own afterwards.
•    Funicular railway: Please note that it is still necessary to present a proof of
      testing, vaccination or convalescence.
•    Should you visit the student prison or Heidelberg Castle, contact data must be
      collected and a proof of testing, vaccination or convalescense is necessary to
      present from all visitors in accordance of the Corona Ordinance. A
      corresponding personal data collection form must be filled out by you and
      admission will only be granted upon presentation of this form.
•    If you show any symptoms of illness, we kindly ask you to cancel your booking
      on time.
