Stift Neuburg (monastery)

Short facts

The Benedictine abbey is located on the outskirts of Heidelberg in the anterior Neckar valley.

The Benedectine abbey is situated on the outskirts of the university town Heidelberg in the Neckar Valley. It had already been founded in 1130 by the Lorsch monastery. Later on there lived convent women, who were living a life of prayers in this monastery. The convent life in Neuburg had stopped with the reformation. The buildings served different purposes and became privately owned in 1804.1926 the Erzabtei Beuron bought the “Stift”, how Heidelberg’s citizens called the monastery, and inhabited it new. Today 16 monks live in the abbey.
