March 20 - April 18, 2021
The festival “is part of the first league of festivals for classical music” (ZEIT), presenting great soloists, ensembles and orchestras and the best young artists in far more than 100 events.
As the Stadthalle (City Hall), usually main venue of the festival, is closed due to the renovation, the “Heidelberger Frühling” 2021 will move into the city and establish a festival campus in the Old Town. The festival center, an orangery building on the centrally located University Square, will take center stage.
As artistic director of the chamber music academy, Pianist Igor Levit can be met at the chamber music festival “Standpunkte” (standpoints). In addition to Thomas Hampson’s Lied Akademie (Song Academy), there will be a four-day song festival called “Neuland.Lied” (New Territory Song).
Other guests include Sol Gabetta, Philippe Jaroussky, Grigory Sokolov and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, which will give a total of six concerts during its one-week residency.
