Theater und Orchester Heidelberg (Theater of the City and Philharmonic Orchestra)
The Heidelberg Theater was founded in 1853 through a citizen's initiative. Despite its renowned history it is still young at heart in all its five branches (opera, drama, dance, children's and youth theatre, symphony and chamber concerts). Its repertoire is oriented towards contemporary pieces and contents. Young actors, singers, musicians, directors and stage designers experience the theatre as a springboard for their career. The theater is developing new audiences with education programs in all branches and has initiated several major youth projects.
Every year in summer the Heidelberg Castle courtyard turns into a concert hall under the open sky for a whole series of stirring concerts during the Heidelberger Schlossfestspiele (Heidelberg Castle Festival).
