July 21 - 28, 2017
Heidelberg Bach Week Every year in the week before the anniversary of Bach’s death on July 28, there is a celebration. In the year of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, the motto of the festival is “Luther’s Chorales in Works by Johann Sebastian Bach“. Martin Luther wrote around 40 songs and hymns, thereby laying the foundation for sacred choral music. Some of his chorales were even incorporated into the music of Johann Sebastian Bach who composed entire cantatas based on one chorale. On the program are organ music, chamber music and cantatas dedicated to these two great masters.
