A sparkling fairytale Christmas awaits in the Heidelberg Old Town.

Taking an advent stroll, you can discover not only picturesque alleyways and famous sights but also some 140 stalls selling enchanting gift ideas. Five inviting squares host these treats: Bismarckplatz, Anatomiegarten, University Square, Kornmarkt and Market Square.

Surrounded by buildings of the historical Old Town, a magical atmosphere at Christmas-time and is an ideal place for the annual Christmas Fair. The delicious smells of such culinary specialities as mulled wine, baked apples, gingerbreads, the "Christstollen" - a special Christmas cake, and the famous grilled sausages draw people from around the city. Once there, they find all kinds of rides and entertainment, including choirs, orchestras and storytellers.

At the festive market inauguration the Heidelberg Christ child will greet visitors from near and far at the City Hall. Christmassy melodies evoke the most pleasant of atmospheres.

Heidelberg Palace Christmas

The enchanting sight of brightly lit marquees, set against the backdrop of an illuminated palace, and wreathed in the tempting aroma of gingerbread: that’s what awaits visitors to Heidelberg Palace Christmas. On 12 days in December, Heidelberg Palace gardens will host a small artisanal crafts market. In addition to handmade wooden, glass and woolen wares, the lovingly decorated tents will offer a variety of tasty treats.
